What insects are DEADLY to your garden?

Several insect pests can cause damage to plants in the garden by feeding on leaves, stems, flowers, fruits, or roots. Some common insects that are considered pests in the garden include:

1. **Aphids:** Aphids are small, sap-sucking insects that feed on the sap of plants, causing distorted growth, yellowing leaves, and the spread of viral diseases.

2. **Whiteflies:** Whiteflies are tiny, moth-like insects that feed on the undersides of leaves,

sucking sap and causing wilting, yellowing, and the spread of viral diseases.

3. **Caterpillars:** Caterpillars are the larval stage of moths and butterflies and can feed on foliage, flowers, and fruits, causing extensive damage to plants. Common caterpillar pests include cabbage worms, tomato hornworms, and armyworms.

4. **Leafhoppers:** Leafhoppers are small, wedge-shaped insects that feed on plant sap, causing stippling, yellowing, and wilting of leaves. They can also transmit plant diseases.

5. **Thrips:** Thrips are tiny, slender insects that feed on plant sap, causing stippling, distortion, and silvering of leaves, as well as scarring on fruits and flowers.

6. **Spider Mites:** Spider mites are tiny arachnids that feed on plant sap, causing

stippling, yellowing, and webbing on leaves. They can multiply rapidly under hot, dry conditions and are difficult to control.

7. **Japanese Beetles:** Japanese beetles are metallic-green beetles that feed on the foliage, flowers, and fruits of many plants, causing skeletonization of leaves and significant damage to ornamental and edible plants.

8. **Slugs and Snails:** Slugs and snails are mollusks that feed on a wide range of plants, causing irregular holes and damage to leaves, stems, and fruits, especially in moist conditions.

9. **Scale Insects:** Scale insects are small, immobile insects that feed on plant sap, causing yellowing, wilting, and dieback of leaves and stems. They secrete a protective scale covering that can be difficult to control.

10. **Wireworms and Grubs:** Wireworms and grubs are the larval stages of beetles and other insects that feed on plant roots, causing wilting, stunted growth, and reduced yields in crops.

These are just a few examples of insect pests that can damage plants in the garden. It’s important to monitor plants regularly for signs of pest infestation and take appropriate measures to control pest populations, such as using physical barriers, applying insecticidal soaps or oils, introducing natural enemies, or practicing cultural controls like crop rotation and sanitation.
